Investing In Our Communities

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) estimates that approximately $277 billion of capital spending will be needed between 2003 and 2022 to replace aging water infrastructure and comply with stricter water quality standards, and the USEPA estimates that approximately $388 billion will be needed between 2000 and 2019 to replace aging wastewater infrastructure. We intend to invest capital prudently to enable us to continue to provide essential services to our regulated water and wastewater utility customers. Investing in our infrastructure is critical to our mission of serving our customers quality and reliable water and wastewater service.

We have a strong and ongoing commitment to investing in infrastructure and keeping it updated. We are committed to delivering excellent service that our customers depend upon at an exceptional value. Tap water costs about a penny a gallon - a remarkable value compared to any other utilities today. With few exceptions, water service remains the lowest utility bill that a household will pay.

In fact, since 2002, Iowa American Water has invested nearly $28 million dollars in water system improvements. We’ve replaced and installed new water lines, meters and hydrants and made improvements at our water treatment, pumping and storage facilities to allow us to continue to provide reliable, quality service to our customers in Clinton and the Iowa Quad Cities.

Some of the largest projects and investments include:

  • $12 million for normal, recurring installation and replacement of water pipelines, meters and hydrants.
  • $4.7 million to construct a new, one-million-gallon elevated storage tank and 4.1 miles of pipeline replacements and reinforcements to enhance service and fire protection flows in a large area of western Davenport.
  • $1.6 million water to replace and relocate pipelines in Kimberly Road to enhance customer service and ready the area for upcoming road expansion.
  • $1 million to rehabilitate a clearwell storage tank and replace of several critical pumps at our East River Station treatment facility to further enhance the safety and reliability of water production.
  • $670,000 to proactively replace one-and-a-half miles of small diameter water pipeline to further improve service and fire protection flows throughout the Clinton community.
  • $600,000 to modify the Middle Road Booster Pumping Station to assure ample water pressures and further increase fire protection flows in a large area of northern Bettendorf and LeClaire.
  • $534,000 investment to upgrade the Clinton Main Station chemical feed systems and a distribution system well house to augment safety and reliability and further enhance water quality.
  • $393,000 to rehabilitate the Clinton Main Station clearwell to further enhance water quality.
  • $370,000 for installation of almost 4,000 feet of large diameter water pipeline in Beaver Channel Parkway to continue to provide ample water pressures and further increase fire protection flows and reliability in the Clinton distribution system.

These investments and the additional investment we continue to make will help us continue to provide high quality water and wastewater service. Delivering quality water service requires continued infrastructure investment. At Iowa American Water, we make the necessary investments in our water systems because we are committed to providing customers with high quality water and reliable water service.
